Technical Textiles & Professional Clothing Custer - Tunisia
The identification of a “Technical Textile Cluster” is rather recent in Tunisia. The statistical system for the collection data and information is being implemented by the T/C Innovation Center of MfcPole and the support of international funding agencies like UNIDO.
Despite these very important efforts, data and information are still “estimations”. Some data are still being collected.
The Technical textile Cluster is not define by a geographical criterion (as all the other) but by the kind of products and applications.
Tunisia is building up a significant presence in the Technical Textiles taking advantage of two key factors: the widespread high ability in clothing manufacturing and the innovative thrust of the governmental industrial strategy within which the Poles for Innovation like MFCPole of Monastir and El Fejja are actors.
The new governmental strategy for supporting of the finishing operations is coherent with the development of the Technical textiles.
- Number of enterprises in the Technical Textiles Industry: apx. 250 companies
- Employment: apx. 28.000 people or 15% of total textile & clothing sector and 5.5% of total employment in the industry.
Typical products are in Clothtech*, Protech* (protection, functional wear), work wear, safety and protective clothing, uniforms. Other relevant products: Hometech* and Mobiltech* products The prevailing technology is clothing manufacturing (RMG).
The Driving force of the cluster are the Exporting companies.
* Application sectors are those included in the First Tunisian Technical Textiles Sector Directory published by MfcPole. They are the same as identified by the Techtextil Exhibition of the Frankfurth Fair). 1. Agrotech, 2. Buildtech, 3.Clothtech, 4. Geotech, 5. Hometech , 6. Indutech, 7. Medtech , 8. Mobiltech, 9.
